THE COURAGE TO BECOME SOMEONE NEW
With the Solstice behind us, the full moon upon us, and the remainder of the year lying ahead, it’s a great time to take stock. To look at where we are within ourselves and where we might be going.
For me personally, I’ve been reflecting on structures - the ways of perceiving and operating in the world that stem from a set of beliefs held together in a very tightly bound structure. And that structure determines our lives.
For example, something I see in so many of the women I work with, is a set of beliefs around low self-worth and confidence. A self-image of powerlessness, shrouded in shame and guilt, that is often times not entirely visible or conscious to the person. They might have a sense of low self-worth but the set of beliefs that make up the entire structure are hidden in the deep layers of the body-mind.
What’s fascinating about structures is that they often begin with an experience in early life that forms the way we come to see ourselves, and life. From one small belief emerges a whole way of being that isn't actually who we are!
But there becomes a point when we have done enough inner work that a particular structure becomes more visible. We start to see it in a way that we couldn’t before, and it is in the seeing that the dissolving begins.
As the structure starts to dissolve, new layers of our being come into form and we become a little more of who we truly are.
This is not an entirely passive process, it requires effort on our behalf, and courage. The effort of examining and challenging our patterns and beliefs, and having the courage to step beyond them. This means making new choices, which is often the hardest part of all!
The nervous system has become accustomed to operating in a particular way where old choices feel familiar, even if they no longer serve us. But in order for the old to drop away, new choices are required, which can feel extremely uncomfortable for a period of time.
For many of us, food plays a big role in these internal structures. We make food choices aligned with a particular way of being, and when that begins to dissolve, new food choices are necessary to support who we are becoming.
Courage, persistence, kindness and patience is required in order to move through the discomfort and establish a new way.
But somehow, when you know where you are going and have a sense of the one emerging, then a little hardship becomes easier to navigate!
So my question to you is this, what structure or set of beliefs are you outgrowing, and who are you ready to become?
Begin by examining your innermost feelings. What is the predominant feeling within you, the one that is most challenging but always by your side. Like a ghost that never leaves. What is this feeling? Can you name it? Then look at all the beliefs you hold in relation to this feeling. That feeling and all its associated beliefs are what make up the structure or way of being that is defining your life.
And then for the fun part - who are you becoming? What are your longings and desires? What are the whispers within you that you know to be true about yourself but haven’t yet been able to inhabit? This is a part of you that already exists beneath the structures and she’s waiting for you. Quietly in the deep, dark stillness of the body.
Go find her!
Sending you much love, health & happiness,
Rebecca
