Food tips for enhanced healing

Foods for healing

MELON
Introducing melon into your daily routine can be a life-changing step, ideally having it in the morning 20-30 minutes after celery juice. Melons are pre-digested, which means that the body barely needs to process it, and yet, it gives so much, a little like getting intravenous nutrient therapy! Biochemically, melons are precisely what the body needs, they are the 'keys to the palace of health', according to Medical Medium!

Melons are so critical to the healing process that when someone is struggling with a health condition and can’t get better, the outcome may very well hinge on whether or not melon is part of his or her diet’.

PAPAYA
If you are struggling with any kind of digestive disorder, papayas are your angel! Each papaya contains more than 500 digestive enzymes that support the pancreas, aid digestion, and mend the walls of the intestinal tract, reducing inflammation and preventing scar tissue from forming there. From constipation to stomach aches, Crohn’s, IBS, gastritis, worms, bacteria or parasites, try bringing in papaya on a daily basis.

*It is always best to look for the large varieties of papaya, as the smaller ones tend to be GMO. Avoid all papayas from Hawaii, and any other crop from Hawaii due to the high level of GMO crops being produced there.

PEARS
If melons or papaya are not available to you, pears are a really good option. They are potent healers in their own right, especially for protecting the pancreas and soothing the digestive tract.

FAT FREE MORNINGS
In the early hours of the morning, while you are fast asleep, your liver gets to work. It works tirelessly through the night to mop up all the toxicity in your body, and in the morning, it needs time to flush through. If you put fat in your body in the morning, you interrupt this process of natural deep cleaning, as immediately the liver has to turn its attention to processing the fat. As much as possible, it is better to focus your mornings around fruits and leafy greens, without any fats from nuts, nut milks, seeds, avocados, animal foods, dairy, eggs olives or oils. Fat free mornings are the BIGGEST first step you can take to heal your health and also the best way to maintain good health in the longer term.

SALT
For the most part, it is better to avoid adding salt to your food and cooking because it is very drying for the body and causes the internal organs or dry out and shrivel up. If you like to use salt, try to use it as sparingly as possible, and just make sure it’s really high quality mineral salt, such as Atlantic or Himalayan sea salt. It’s always better to focus on getting natural salt through foods such as celery, cucumber, leafy greens and sea vegetables, such as dulse or nori.

ALOE VERA
Fresh leaf aloe vera is a wild food that has miraculous healing properties. It is one of the oldest remedies and natural antibiotics in the world and it contains potent trace minerals that calm inflammation in the gut and relieve constipation, IBS, Crohn’s and colitis. It also helps to soothe and regenerate the appendix and ileum, a part of the digestive tract that often gets congested with unproductive bacteria. It is also an amazingly powerful food for removing radiation from the body, something we all need! Try adding a 2-inch piece of fresh aloe to your smoothies or blend it into your morning lemon water with raw honey.

Aloe is very bitter, so I tend to prepare the fresh leaf by doing the following:

  1. Cut the large leaf into 3-4 segments (or just prepare 1 segment at a time and keep the rest in the fridge whole)

  2. Skin the segment

  3. Cut the segment into 2 inch pieces and cover with filtered water for 15 minutes

  4. Drain and rinse, and place the pieces into a glass container for storage in the fridge

  5. Each day blend a piece into your smoothie or morning lemon water

THE ADRENALS AND HUNGER
When the body is not in good health, the adrenals will always take a hit because they have to work harder and pump out more adrenaline. In order to relieve the adrenals and help them to recover, it is absolutely critical to eat often enough, ideally every every 90 minutes to 2 hours. This helps to drip-feed the body with vital glucose and mineral salts and prevents the adrenals from getting involved. If you're someone who is always hungry no matter how much you eat and/or you suffer from blood sugar highs and lows, regular snacking is CRITICAL. Here are some examples of snacks to refuel with:

  • Apples, celery sticks & dates

  • Banana, spinach and coconut water (blended)

  • Bananas, dates, romaine lettuce (try mashing the banana into the lettuce leaf and chopping the dates on top. Yum!)

POTATOES
Never be deceived into thinking potatoes are bad for your health. This is a great mistake. Potatoes are highly anti-viral, stabilise blood sugar and are one of the greatest survival foods of our times. But how you eat them matters. If you lather potatoes with butter, cheese, oils or salt, you lose the healing essence of the potato. For best results, steam or bake them without fats, the exception being avocadoes, which are a great stepping stone, if you need some butteriness! Mash in a little avocado to your hot steaming or baked potato and you will never miss the butter or oil again!!

All of these tips have been game changers on my own healing journey, they are tried and tested many times over and I continue to work with these foods all the time. Remember, every food that falls into the category of being a fruit, vegetable, herb/spice or wild food has an essence and spirit all of its own that helps you to heal in deep and profound ways. Get to know these foods like they're your best friends and I promise you they will respond in magical ways.
