DESTABILISATION AS THE DOORWAY

movingthroughearth

This week we have just passed through a new moon and are very much in the energy of Imbolc, the Celtic pagan festival that celebrates the end of winter and the arrival of spring on the 1st February.

New moons are a time of new beginnings and beginning again, and with this new moon, Imbolc and Chinese New Year all in the same week, there is huge potential here for the cracking open of old shells!

But remember that all growth and new creation requires a period of destabilisation. Allowing yourself to feel destabilised is one of the most powerful and important pieces in order to outgrow the past - the survival strategies and coping mechanisms from childhood that you know as ‘normal’.

DESTABILISATION is necessary for growth. But we're terrified of change and of feeling destabilised because it challenges all that we’ve ever known.

Survival is what we are primed for. The brain and nervous system are wholly invested in ensuring something doesn’t happen – that you’re not going to fail or be unsafe, abandoned, betrayed, dismissed, judged or discarded.

But this place of survival is a place of repeating patterns that doesn’t actually allow for creation, let alone freedom. In fact, these patterns that we so desperately cling to are the very thing keeping us trapped in the cage we long to be free from!

Destabilisation feels uncomfortable, yes, and oftentimes horrendously scary. But is also the doorway to growth. It is necessary in order to find new ground beyond the familiar.

And so, amidst the energy of the Lunar Imbolc, I invite you to enquire without judgement, is what you’re clinging to in service of your freedom, or in service of your survival? Or do you even know to what or where you cling?

To be courageous is to keep walking to the edges of all that you cling to, and to let go, little by little, into the vast expanse of the unknown.
